Alan Matheson is the executive director of the Utah Department of Environmental Quality and a senior environmental advisor to Gov. Gary R. Herbert. Before his work with the state of Utah, Matheson served as the executive director of Envision Utah, founding director of the Utah Water Project, a partner in a Phoenix law firm, and as senior attorney and environmental policy advisor for Arizona’s largest electric utility. Matheson earned an A.B. in international relations from Stanford University and a law degree from UCLA School of Law, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review.
